Case Study – Wet Floor Shower Room in East Kilbride

Our customer approached us looking to fit a wet floor shower in his existing downstairs cloakroom.  The existing shower had a large step and our client was having difficulty getting in and out.  To make it safer and allow independent showering he wanted a wet floor installed.

Space was limited but we used products designed specifically for smaller bathrooms and made it possible to create the wet floor within the area.  Firstly, to make the most of the area, the door was altered to open outwards into the hall, this allowed previously wasted space to be gained.

Through lifting sections of the concrete floor and altering the pipes, the area for the wet floor was created.  The floor was then graded to give run to the shower drain.  For safety, Polyflor Polysafe Hydro vinyl was then fitted to the full floor area with coving running up the wall.  This vinyl is heavy-duty safety flooring with a raised emboss that is ideal for continually wet areas.  The coving ensures the area is water tight.  Our customer chose the Tempered Steel colour to contrast with the walls.

All the walls were fitted with Multipanel wet wall boards in Frost White, with metal white trims. Wallboards are easy to look after and are maintenance free.  The colour chosen gave the bathroom a light and airy feel.

Our customer liked the idea of a drench style shower but also an adjustable handset for choice of showering.  A Bristan Quadrato was fitted which gave the options he was looking for.  Finally the shower area was completed with two deflector panels from Lake Bathrooms and a chrome grab bar to provide assistance.

We suggested the HIB cloakroom range for the basin as they have many different styles.  The Murcia wall mounted basin was chosen and it was fitted with an exposed chrome trap and Roper Rhodes Joy basin mixerRak Compact WC set was fitted and with its compact dimensions it didn’t protrude too far into the room.

For the finishing touches a chrome ladder rail was fitted, an LED mirror from Frontline and also accessories from Roper Rhodes and Bristan.

Our customer is delighted with his new shower facility and although his priority was for a practical and easy to use bathroom, he is thrilled that it also looks fabulous!
