John and Angela’s Cottage Flat Bathroom

When we were asked to come up with a design layout for John and Angela’s Cottage flat bathroom, the lack of space within the room didn’t prevent the wish list from being large!

As anyone who has ever lived in an old Kingspark Cottage Flat, they will know the concrete floors,  (which always slope!), make installing a shower tray a tricky task, but our clients wanted a large shower tray with walk in style fixed shower panel.

To achieve this, we raggled the waste into the floor before coring through the wall to connect the waste to the outside drain. We then screeded the floor to level off the same ready to accept tiles.

Whilst this additional labour obviously adds cost to the project, it negates the need to fit the shower tray on legs with an unsightly plinth. The additional work also ensures the installation is future proofed in terms of providing easy access should mobility become an issue.

To complement the modern feel of the walk in shower, we also installed a Roper Rhodes Chrome plated shower system, which fed from the new combination boiler, providing a fantastic flow via the 200mm drench shower head.

Other key pieces in the bathroom include  Ellis bathroom Furniture which allowed us to conceal unsightly pipework and provide storage space. During discussions with John and Angela it became clear that the shower was going to be in constant use (teenage daughter!), we advised that the furniture a granite worksurface and the side panel  on the furniture was clad with white Silestone to help ensure no water ingress from splashing or steam.  It’s all about the details!
